‘The individual was not bound, but opened up to others through a more porous and permeable membrane, which might resonate or attune through a coming together of intensities’ Lisa Blackman, Immaterial Bodies, 2012.
Join us for an Aural Séance, where we will channel and call forward the hidden sounds of our mind. Together, we will explore our subliminal inner landscapes in search of sounds.
After the initial performance of her piece ‘Aural Séance’ Victoria Karlsson will lead a discussion around some of the ideas and questions which have inspired and influenced the work. We will ask what inner sounds really are and who can hear them? Whether listening can be performed in other ways and with other senses, than our ears? If ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ listening is as clearly defined as we like to think, and ponder what collective inner listening experiences might be possible?

Victoria Karlsson is a sound artist interested in the emotional and subjective aspects of sound and art. Investigating sound as both an inner and outer experience, she explores how we think about, remember, dream about sounds, and how this influences our experiences of sounds in our everyday. She is currently undertaking a PhD Research Degree at University of the Arts, London. Her research investigates sounds in thoughts, asking if we hear sounds in our minds, what they mean to us and where they come from. http://victoriakarlsson.co.uk/
